Big Positive For 2008 Silver Fern Rally

PROMOTED BY THE MARATHON RALLY CAR CLUB INC.

Media Release
6th November 2007 - Immediate release.

Early Entries A Big Positive For 2008 Silver Fern Rally

With the local rally scene all but over for the summer, and with still 12 months before the start of the 2008 NZ Silver Fern International Marathon Rally, early-bird entries are looking positive, with 50 already being received by organisers.

Silver Fern Rally Chairman, Hamilton's Gary Smith, said "as with the 2006 event we are again getting good early support for the event from locals, as well as a positive response from overseas, with 16 international competitors signed up to experience the marathon rallying adventure and the best of New Zealand's rally roads."

While some of the early entrants competed in the last event in 2006, there are also a growing number of newcomers who have either heard about the event, or have been building cars especially to compete here in the 1500km, week long event.

There is a good cross-section of high performance rally cars entered so far, with the majority from the classic 2 wheel drive era of the 1970's and 80's, including Escorts, Mazda RX3 &7's, Nissan, Triumph, Porsche, Datsun and Hillman.

In addition to those already committing to the event, organisers are aware of a number of the international competitors who are waiting to see how their fortunes go in the East African Safari Classic event at the end of November before they confirm their plans for the 2008 event to be held in NZ's South Island.

The October 16th - 23rd 2008 event, will start in Christchurch, and take competitors to Queenstown, Dunedin, Invercargill, back to Dunedin, Timaru and Christchurch before finishing at Scenic Circle Hotels new Conference Centre in Blenhiem.
