Air Race pilots pass safety training

Air Race pilots pass safety training

The Red Bull Air Race World Series’ pilots made a splash during their
safety training in a heated pool near Perth on Monday and Tuesday ahead
of this weekend’s Red Bull Air Race World Series final.

“The safety training in this form is an informative experience that really no pilot in the world should do without,” said Air Race pilot Michael Goulian (USA/Team Dragon Racing) following his training session at the facilities of Perth-based emergency response and safety training company ERGT.

“While we are not expecting any emergencies, you should always be prepared for every situation,” he added. “That’s exactly why I found the training to be very interesting and instructional.

All 13 Red Bull Air Race pilots took part in the training in a pool at the facility, where an aircraft cabin controlled on a crane was used to simulate emergency scenarios. Pilots learned breathing exercises, harness release moves under extraordinary circumstances and safe and correct ways to surface.

Leading World Series pilot Paul Bonhomme (GBR / Team Matador) and his rivals took part in the training together in Jandakot and impressed the Australian safety instructors. “It’s remarkable how systematic all of the pilots advanced through the training. These guys are top professionals.“
