forecourts are a focus of award-winning artist Anah
Dunsheath in her latest series called Fuel.
Dunsheath’s works are featuring in an exhibition in the Ferner Galleries in Parnell, Auckland this month.
People’s interaction and subsequent body language features strongly in her latest works.
The overall style of Dunsheath’s work is recognisable, but the petrol station theme is new to New Zealand art.
``They are a commonplace site we are all familiar with on a weekly basis. I am fascinated by the new look service stations, the wacky architecture, the vast concrete spaces, the advertising signage and the colour combinations.
``To my mind this destination encapsulates in miniature the worst of how we operate as consumers. The whole package is a showcase for consumerism.’’
Dunsheath also owns the leading antiquarian bookshop in New Zealand. She has been dealing in early books for years at her Rare Books shop in downtown Auckland.
Her works have been acquired by many private collectors in New Zealand and overseas this year she is a finalist in the James Wallace Awards for a sculptural work.
