For immediate release

Interislander Backs Steve Williams Inaugural North Versus South Saloon Car Series

Interislander are delighted to gain the naming rights to the Steve Williams backed North Island versus South Island Saloon Car series which kicks off in Blenheim on Friday November 23.

To be known as the Interislander Saloon Car Series, the teams head to Christchchurch after Blenheim for racing there on Saturday November 24 and finish up at Dunedin on Sunday November 25. The two teams will race three team races each night to determine the winner with a feature race including local cars to finish off each nights racing.

The event has been put together between Saloon car driver Steve Williams and RadioSport Woodford Glen promoter Lewis Dawson. With Saloon cars having reached National status for the 2007/08 season Williams said, " It was perfect timing to showcase what the class involves," Williams added, " the Interislander Saloon Car Series embraces what speedway is all about fun, family, friends and very competitive racing".

Interislander Marketing Manager Gavin Rutherford says, "We are delighted to be associated with someone like Steve who has not only done so much for speedway in New Zealand but who is so passionate and generous towards the country as a whole having just announced a seven figure donation from the Steve Williams Foundation to Starship Children's Hospital oncology ward."

Mr Rutherford says," the saloon car series and Interislander have a lot in common and that is focussing on fun, family and friends travelling together. Speedway is very much a family orientated sport and we are delighted to assist the team. "

Interislander will be assisting the North Island team get across the Cook Strait and Steve Williams says this has been critical to ensuring the event went ahead. "Our drivers are everyday family people and any costs savings that can be achieved is incredibly important and appreciated by them."

The Saloons will also be taking part in the Super Saloon Champion of Champions Events to be run at Christchurch's Woodford Glen Speedway on November 16/17 (Christchurch Show Week) which Steve Williams himself will be competing in.
