World class Māori musicians unite for one spectacular show
Toi Māori Aotearoa* is proud to announce the international line-up of Māori artists for PAO PAO PAO 2007.
Between the nine acts performing at the Wellington Town Hall on Friday, 2 November 2007, these artists have taken Māori music and te reo Māori to the four corners of the world.
Project Manager, Ngahiwi Apanui says PAO PAO PAO offers New Zealanders a rare chance to see these globe-trotting artists perform in Aotearoa. “Increasingly, top Māori musicians like Moana & the Tribe are touring overseas to sell-out crowds in places like Russia and the United States”, says Ngahiwi Apanui.
He adds, “PAO PAO PAO is an opportunity for us to see our musical ambassadors perform at home and to celebrate younger Māori musicians who are following in their footsteps.”
The bilingual show includes kapa haka, jazz, taonga pūoro (traditional Māori instruments) and stunning vocal performances.
The full line-up is Moana & the Tribe, Whirimako Black, Te Aratoi – Riki and Rewi, Toni Huata, Pacific Curls, Ngatai Huata, Zero T, 4 Corners and the dance crew Torotoro. For artists profiles go to www.maoriart.org.nz
The three hour showcase will provide a musical and visual feast for the mind, body and soul. Come and experience the vibrant World of Māori Music – Te Ara Pūoro at PAO PAO PAO. Tickets are on sale via Ticketek.
PAO PAO PAO is supported by Creative New Zealand, Wellington City Council, APRA, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, ALAC, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Auahi Kore, Te Puni Kōkiri and New Zealand Music Commission.
