NZ Premiere of "Five"
Five young Kiwis go into the bush for their annual adventure trip together. How many will come out, and will they still
be friends?
With Halloween fast approaching, the release of Amit Tripuraneni’s second film ‘Five’ is timely. The New Zealand
premiere takes place at 10:30pm on Friday the 19th of October at Auckland’s Academy Cinemas.
‘Five’ is receiving a limited theatrical run ahead of it’s New Zealand DVD release on Friday the 26th of October.
The world premiere of ‘Five’ took place at the Microcinema Film Festival in Chicago on the 1st of September, where it
won ‘Best Feature - Action/Thriller’. The movie will also screen at the DNA Film Festival in Toronto on the 12th of
October.
Tripuraneni’s first film ‘Memories of Tomorrow’ won three awards, including Best Director, at the Microcinema Film
Festival in 2005. ‘Memories of Tomorrow’ then went on to secure sales to six major international territories including
Italy, Russia and South Africa.
Tripuraneni hopes to better that result with ‘Five’, but in the mean time he is developing his next project, ‘Ghost
Scream’, which he describes as, “a horror-comedy with tonal similarities to ‘Shaun of the Dead’ but set in the world of
comic book arts and evil cults.”
Shot in the breathtaking Waitakere Ranges, the cast and crew of ‘Five’ had to hike deep into the bush to reach their
shooting locations, much like the characters in the film. The remote setting has made for some stunning footage that
viewers are unlikely to see in other films.
‘Five’ stars Richard Thompson, Anita Crisnel, Andy Sophocleous, Marjan Gorgani, Amit Tripuraneni and Tahi Mapp-Borren.
The film is being distributed in Australasia by Arkles Entertainment, while sales of the remaining international
territories are currently being negotiated.
It's morning as five former flatmates and old friends wake up in a remote tramping hut nestled deep in the woods. This
weekend is a celebration of their friendship - it will be the last time they will go out on their annual 'tradition' of
an adventure trip. Old behaviours, dynamics and rivalries surface as they discover a secret no one was supposed to find
out. Sometimes your friends aren't the people you think they are.
Sometimes, it can be hard to say goodbye.
