Hayman’s Beard Calls For Immediate Inquiry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 08 October 2007

Hayman’s Beard Calls For Immediate Inquiry After Beardless Loss

Hayman's Beard, the group who called on All Black prop Carl Hayman to grow back his beard, are demanding an immediate inquiry into the quarter final loss, focusing on why The Beard was absent from the crucial game.

Despite widely reported comments earlier in the campaign that Hayman had heard the call of The People and would bring The Beard back, the prop ran out onto Millennium Stadium sans facial hair.

We all know the result.

An immediate parliamentary inquiry into the shaving that took place before the game should be launched so the public can understand why such a crucial piece of mismanagement was allowed to occur.

It should be noted that the English team that defeated Australia featured a fine beard, and the French side which ended the All Blacks World Cup run had at least 2 beards within the side.

The All Blacks had none.

Thousands of kiwis around the world grew beards in support of the All Blacks, and the group are struggling to come to terms with the loss and the decision to shave The Beard.

A despondent spokesperson Jon Scrivin had this to say:
“It defies understanding. Why such a crucial part of the campaign would be overlooked by Carl, by the coaching and management staff, by everyone within the team, we are simply unable to comprehend. As soon as the team ran out, we felt a disturbance in the force, if you will, and the reason was soon clear: The Beard was gone”

“A lot of kiwis put a lot into growing their beards, and for the All Blacks to disregard that with a quick slash of a razor is extremely disappointing”

Despite their sadness, Hayman’s Beard urged kiwis to move on as best they can.

“We at Hayman’s Beard are as gutted as anyone, but we recognise that life goes on. Failure is a part of life, and the New Zealand public need to pull themselves together and march forward”

“We give our heartfelt thanks to the many thousands of people who supported us since we began campaigning for the return of The Beard.”
