Prices Thaw For Spring At Mt Ruapehu

Prices thaw for Spring at Mt Ruapehu

With three weeks of the 2007 ski season left, Mt Ruapehu is celebrating some fantastic spring snow conditions with discounts on Lift Passes. From Monday 8th October through to the close on Sunday 28th October Adult All Mountain Lift Passes will drop by 25% to $60.

The Youth rate (18 and under) will reduce to $33. There's also big discounts if you come skiing with a Season or Life Pass holder.

Mt Ruapehu Marketing Manager, Mike Smith says there's some great skiing still to be had. "We've got a snow base over 2 metres at Whakapapa and 1.95 metres at Turoa. Its some of the best spring conditions we've seen for quite a while."

Last week saw 30cm of fresh snow fall on the mountain and there's more in the forecast this week.

"We've got snow in the forecast for later this week and then looking like some nice fine weather from Friday," Mike Smith said.

Next weekend sees two of the most popular events in the spring calendar on the mountain. Saturday will see the Rip Curl/K2 free-styling for funds. This is an all girls event raising money for breast cancer research. It features the very popular "bikini downhill".

Also on Saturday is the Peak to Powderkeg which is a ski, run and mountain bike race from the top of Turoa down to Ohakune.

"Next weekend will be a must do on the mountain. The Peak to Powderkeg is a great social event for teams and individuals to compete in. We also still need some volunteers to carry jackets for the girls in the Bikini Downhill but I'm sure we'll manage to find some people," Mike Smith said.

Both Whakapapa and Turoa will close on Sunday October 28th.
