NZB Insurance Hits Hastings
New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance continues their prolific sponsorship of New Zealand racing tomorrow with the running of the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Premier at Hastings.
And the generosity doesn't stop there - with the owners of the ten winning horses on the day going in the draw to win a NZ$100,000 bloodstock insurance policy courtesy of New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance and their underwriters, Lexington Insurance Company.
The draw will be made in the birdcage immediately prior to the last race of the day at approximately 5.10pm.
New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Manager, Jim Bruford commented, "It's great to be able to give something back to the industry in recognition of the support we get from our loyal clients".
Fourteen horses will be contesting tomorrow's open handicap event over 2040 metres - the eighth race of Hawkes Bay Racing Inc's prestigious Kelt Capital Stakes Day.
The Listed Colaundra City Cup (2400m) winner on two occasions, Empyreal (His Royal Highness x Diphda), heads the field contesting the $45,000 purse. With almost half-a-million dollars to his name, the Peter McKenzie trained eight-year-old will carry 58kg, including jockey Chris Johnson. He is yet to win a race in six starts this preparation.
Also by His Royal Highness, and trained by McKenzie, is eleven time winner, Miles (Shindiza). Mark Du Plessis has the ride on the six-year-old who has drawn barrier 14.
Having his second start on New Zealand soil is the Graeme Rogerson and Gary Newham trained Break The Barrier (Danehill Dancer x Rhapsody in Blue). The Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) winner had his first up run for a disappointing twelfth to Mandela (Ebony Grosve x Wairongoa Belle) in the Listed Jim & John Evans Classic at Counties on 22 September.
Experienced hoop Noel Harris has been booked to help Everswindell (Align x Hilarion Lady) overcome her Hawkes Bay hoodoo for trainer John Sargent. In her last start she finished well for fourth behind Kelt Capital Stakes contender Mandela.
Local trainer Tim Symes has Darryl Bradley taking the reins on his handy galloper, The Veep (Deputy Governor x Love Proposal) while fellow Hastings based runner, Erahedy (Danasinga x Forest Dream) will be ridden by Kane Smith for Frank Brown.
Andrew Parkes has his son, apprentice rider Jonathan Parkes, riding five-time winner Western Line (Stark South x Ragtime Belle) from barrier nine.
Michael Walker and Micky (Istidaad x Miss Candace) team up for trainer Ron Nolan. In his last start he came fourth - less than a length off race winner and rival The Veep on Stoneybridge Day at Hastings. In the same race, and all lining up tomorrow, were the Roger and Darryl Lang trained Jovial Jock (I Conquer x Beima) who fought on well for fifth plus sixth-placed Hoorang (Zerpour x Kay Maree) and seventh placegetter Keisano (Germano x Keisan).
Peter McKay's hope, Jet Home (Jetball x Home Bay), comes off the back of a pleasing last start third over 1600 metres at Ruakaka when resuming. Cameron Lammas retains the ride.
From the Awapuni stable of Lisa Latta Nanjara (Kilimanjaro x Shafty x Lady) starts with nine races under his belt for four wins and four placings. Never one to go down without a fight, the five-year-old mare will be ridden by Bruce Herd.
Having his second start in open company is the Mike and Paul Moroney trained Shariat's On Fire (Keeper x Shariat). Having been unplaced at the start of this preparation he has made speedy work of progressing up the grades with three wins and a second placing.
