NZA and NZU21 Squads Netball Squads Named
 
Netball New Zealand named the 2007/8 NZA and NZU21 Squads this afternoon in Palmerston North following the final of the Scottwood Trust Netball Champs.

The 2007/8 NZA Squad is reduced in number to up to 10 players as the focus shifts to the NZU21 Squad in preparation for the 2009 World Youth Cup in the Cook Islands. 

Seven players have been selected in the NZA Squad, though additional players may be added next year as National Selectors consider performances of players during the Tasman Trophy.

The 2007/8 NZA Squad is:

Erika Burgess                         Western

Phillipa Finch                         Otago

Katrina Grant                        Otago

Grace Rasmussen*              Auckland Waitakere

Anna Thompson                   Otago

Jess Tuki                                  Otago

Angelina Yates                     North

 

* As Grace Rasmussen is also eligible for selection in the NZU21 Team for the World Youth Cup, she will join the NZU21 Squad in the matches preceding the Netball World Championships.

 

The National Selectors have named 16 players in the 2007/8 NZU21 Squad, these players plus Grace Rasmussen (from the NZA Squad), will play South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, Malaysia, Jamaica, Barbados, Wales, Singapore and Scotland in Auckland as they prepare for the Netball World Championships.

The criteria for selection in the 2007/8 NZ Under 21 Squad included eligibility for the 2009 World Youth Cup.  To meet this criteria, players needed to have been born in 1988 or later.

Please note that the Current Silver Ferns Squad will carry through to 2008.
