Art With Heart Supports Local Charity
Some of Canterbury’s most recognised and emerging artists are joining forces to support an exhibition and auction to benefit Christchurch’s most at-risk families.
Thirty-four of the region’s artists are each offering three original works to the heART for Children event, to be held on Sunday October 14 at St Margaret’s College.
Artists such as Brad Bannan , John Boyd, Kees Bruin, Sue Currie and Mike Glover will exhibit alongside newcomers Nic Phillipson, Karen Joyce and Oscar Enberg.
Many of the artists will donate the proceeds of one of their works to the heART for Children charity, the Family Help Trust, which works to reduce child abuse in our community. It works closely with families identified as being at ultra-high risk and supports them to establish new skills and routines without violence and crime. Its work is funded by events including this art auction.
Board member Deborah James says “This art auction has become an annual event which Canterbury art-lovers note in their diary.
“We are thrilled by the number and calibre of artists taking part this year. Brad Bannan’s work is eagerly sought after, so we are particularly pleased that not only will he exhibit again this year, but also be available during viewings to discuss his work with would-be buyers and aspiring artists.”
The exhibition and auction will be held in the St Margaret’s College gymnasium in Merivale on Sunday October 14 at 6pm.
The works can be viewed between 2pm and 5pm the previous day and from 10am to 3pm on auction day.
Tickets are $20 and available by phoning Family Help Trust. The full list of contributing artists and some of the works can be viewed on the Family Help Trust website – www.familyhelptrust.org.nz
