New Zealand's Hidden Talent Rallies For Payroll Professionals
If entries for MYOB's National Payroll Professional of the Year competition are anything to go by, New Zealand is a nation of talented lyricists and hidden poets and one may be hiding in an office near you.
To celebrate MYOB National Payroll Professional Day on 5 October, MYOB is urging all businesses to put on their creative caps and come up with a novel way to nominate their payroll person for the title: MYOB National Payroll Professional of the Year.
The competition to find New Zealand's most dedicated and loved payroll professional has already seen MYOB receive inventive and expressive entries ranging from one-liners to full-length rhymes and limericks.
Many entries have been received, and with just over a week until entries close, MYOB's Enterprise Division Manager Jo Lobb is hoping that this year applications will eclipse the hundreds received during the last competition.
"It's fantastic to see so many people taking time to recognise the hard, behind the scenes work that all payroll professionals carry out on a day to day basis.
"The calibre of applications is extremely high and we have had a lot of fun reading through some of the many inspiring and quirky stories, poems and letters we've received," says Ms Lobb.
"People obviously hold their payroll person in really high regard and we're seeing this in the amount of time and effort they are putting in to their submissions."
One of the current standouts for the judges is this poem:
"Each week she does our payroll and goes that extra mile, She always shares a little joke to make sure that we smile, Our pays are always done on time, there's never any strife, But woe betide you say she's wrong she'll chase you with a knife. No that's not right she's not like that, I'm really only kidding! She'll fix the prob as quick as that and handle any ribbin..."
"More than 70 percent of New Zealand's workforce is employed in organisations with over 20 employees, requiring the services of a payroll professional, and after such a difficult year, we want to see as many of these hardworking and dedicated people recognised as possible," says Ms Lobb.
"Entries are already flooding in and we are looking forward to receiving and reading many more before the cut off on 1 October.
"It's not going to be easy to choose just two people, so we are encouraging people to be as creative as possible with their entries to ensure their payroll person stands out," says Ms Lobb.
To enter, visit www.myob.co.nz/payrollprofessionalday and tell MYOB in 300 words or less why your payroll professional is deserving of the title: MYOB National Payroll Professional of the Year.
Two winners, one from the North Island and one from the South Island, will receive an overnight Air New Zealand Great Mystery Break for two people.
Entries close at 5pm on 1 October and winners will be notified on 5 October.
