Good cause for celebration

Eve De Castro Robinson, has won the Apra Silver Scroll SOUNZ Contemporary Award for excellence in composition with These Arms to Hold You, which was commissioned by Plunket to celebrate its centenary year.

Carol Becker, Plunket's New Zealand President, sends her heartfelt congratulations to Eve on the success of her composition. "It is a wonderful piece of music that encompasses the joy of being a parent ", Carol says.

The selection jury had this to say about These Arms to Hold You: "This work had moments of magic. It was fresh, lively and vibrant and full of the uninhibited joy of youth."

As part of Plunket's centenary celebrations, These Arms to Hold You was performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra during its tour of Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch during June this year. The orchestra was accompanied by the Kelburn Normal School Lyrica Choir, singing lyrics by award winning poet, Bill Manhire.

Plunket has been part of New Zealand communities for over 100 years and has been celebrating is 100th birthday with events throughout the country. Celebrations will continue during their Annual Appeal week 13 21 October, which has attracted the support of a range of celebrities including Carol Hirschfeld, Robyn Malcolm and Sir Edmund Hillary to name a few.

The SOUNZ Contemporary Award is a collaborative project of both SOUNZ, the Centre for New Zealand Music and APRA, the Australasian Performing Right Association. The SOUNZ Contemporary Award recognises creativity and inspiration in composition by a New Zealander.
