Glassons at Fashion Week: On the Hunt for NZ’s Next T-Shirt Designer
Glassons and NZ Fashion Week are providing an opportunity for one lucky Kiwi to join the likes of Trelise Cooper, Karen
Walker and Kate Sylvester through a t-shirt design competition. The winning design will go on to feature in the 2008
Glassons Breast Cancer Research Trust t-shirt collection.
For the first time, Glassons will have a stand at Fashion Week, proudly positioned alongside the crème de la crème of
the New Zealand fashion pack. The stand will celebrate the fantastic charity t-shirt campaign run each year in
collaboration with The Breast Cancer Research Trust, on the public open days – 21 and 22 September.
The Glassons Breast Cancer Research Trust t-shirt campaign has now been running for five years, and has involved some of
New Zealand’s, and the world’s, top designers and celebrities. During that time it has become a highlight in a kiwi
fashionista’s diary – with hundreds of thousands of Kiwi women proudly buying and wearing the t-shirts in support of the
important cause.
More importantly, the campaign has already raised more than $2.7 million for The Breast Cancer Research Trust.
The Glassons stand will be located in the Rumpus Room, and will be a fun and interactive space where the public can stop
for a moment, take some creative inspiration and have a chance to go down in history as a Glassons Breast Cancer
Research Trust t-shirt designer.
The winning design will be selected by previous campaign designers and will then go on to become one of a handful of
t-shirt designs to feature on the Glasson’s racks next January.
Glassons Managing Director, Di Humphries, says; “We are absolutely delighted to be joining Fashion Week this year and to
be able to say thank you to those designers who have been so generous in giving their time and creative inspiration to
support our campaign.
“It’s also a wonderful opportunity to invite the public to be part of the phenomenal success of the Glassons Breast
Cancer Research Trust t-shirt campaign. We know there is some fantastic talent to be tapped in to and we absolutely
can’t wait to see the artwork that will come out of the Fashion Week stand.”
Alison Taylor, Chair of The Breast Cancer Research Trust, says; “When Glassons approached us to say they were taking the
t-shirt campaign even further with a presence at NZ Fashion Week, and giving the public an opportunity to be involved
from a creative aspect, we were delighted. The money raised through the t-shirts has provided such a boost for our
mission, which is to find a cure for Breast Cancer in our lifetime.
“With the additional funding we have been able to establish a new Chair of Breast Cancer Research at Auckland
University, provide funding for the research into the use of radar scanning in the early detection of Breast Cancer and
advance research into the use of hormones to control the growth of Breast Cancer cells.”
Entry into the t-shirt design competition will be by way of $5 donation to The Breast Cancer Research Trust, for which
entrants will receive a paper t-shirt to draw their designs on. The winning design will be selected and announced the
following week.
