Dove Pink Star Walk Returns

Dove Pink Star Walk Returns

Back after a hugely successful first year, the second annual Dove Pink Star Walk will take place on Saturday 6thOctober 2007 beneath a starlit Auckland sky and this year promises to be bigger, better and pinker.

In support of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF), this fun 5km charity walk is open to men, women and children of all ages and begins at 800pm with the beautiful Auckland Domain to be illuminated in pink for the occasion.

Proceeds from the walk will help to fund research for prevention and cure, whilst acknowledging the 2,500 women who are diagnosed with and the 600 women who die of Breast Cancer each year in New Zealand. Last year saw over 2000 people participate in the inaugural Dove Pink Star Walk.

This year participants will once again be encouraged to get into the pink spirit by decorating and wearing their very own Dove wings - and to make it easier a pattern of the wings will be included in every event registration pack. It promises to be a star studded night with prizes for the best pink outfit, goody bags, a spectacular pink fireworks display and entertainment to cheer people on to the finish line.

Helen Mawn, Executive Director of The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, says the good news is that about three-quarters of women diagnosed now survive breast cancer, however as the exact cause is unknown it is vitally important for everyone to minimise their risk.

“Ongoing education to inform women how to reduce their personal risk of breast cancer, and ongoing research into ways to prevent and cure breast cancer are essential. Dove’s support and commitment through this wonderful event is much appreciated.”
