(Auckland – 6 September 2007)
The Langham Hotel Auckland is thrilled to announce their signature restaurant Partingtons has been announced New Zealand Restaurant of the Year for the second consecutive year at the world’s largest annual hot kitchen competition.
The title was awarded to Partingtons at the New Zealand Culinary Fare. The Fare is New Zealand’s longest running culinary competition attracting over 1000 competitors making it the world’s largest competition of its kind.
The awards are sponsored by dish magazine.
The Partingtons winning team comprised of chef de cuisine Kirk McLean, Chef de Partie Ronesh Chandra and restaurant supervisor Mauricio Brunelli.
The team were coached by the hotel’s executive chef Ofir Yudilevich and by restaurant manager Stefan Kerekere.
I am extremely proud of our team,” said Ofir. “This achievement is a first for any hotel restaurant in the country and emphasises the quality of people who work in our hotel. This competition requires a huge amount of effort and to retain this title for the second consecutive year proves that each win has not been by chance but as a result of pure passion, commitment and hard work.”
The Restaurant of the Year competition is open to restaurants nationwide and designed to test the skills of the chefs and restaurant service staff outside their familiar environment. The challenge is for each restaurant team to design and develop a menu from a mystery box of ingredients, cook, present and serve to guests.
The Partingtons team’s winning main menu featured a leg of chicken stuffed with roasted mushrooms and pistachios served on artichoke risotto, tortellini of white bean and ricotta and a parsley caulis. This was followed by a chocolate soufflé dessert served with clover honey and raisin ice-cream and a roasted pear and walnut compote.
