WESTFIELD STYLE PASIFIKA FASHION SPECTACULAR FIRST HOME TOWN ENTERTAINMENT EVENT AT NEW STADIUM

Over 300 entertainers, models, plus makeup, hair, lights, sound and backstage teams are rehearsing to bring the first ever New Zealand entertainment event to the newly opened Vector Arena in downtown Auckland. The Westfield Style Pasifika Fashion Awards will showcase the vibrancy of Pacific New Zealand in a one off extravaganza this Friday September 7.

“It is especially satisfying that these Fashion Awards, celebrating fantastic New Zealand talent and our cultural melting pot have become the first New Zealand produced entertainment show at Vector Arena,” said Producer Stan Wolfgram who is visionary behind Westfield Style Pasifika the largest and most innovative indigenous fashion show of its type in the world.

“We are ready to put on the show of our life by taking Westfield Style Pasifika to the bigger landscape of the Vector Arena and give it another dimension.”

They are certainly in fine company after recent performances by such international acts stage acts as Gwen Stefani, The Cure and Bob Dylan at the new venue.

“Not only do we have all the catwalk glamour of fantastic fashion design, we also have top New Zealand bands and performers appearing, so I can certainly say that we intend to rock the Arena!”

While the performers and models are rehearsing, the hundred finalists selected from the record number of entries from throughout New Zealand, the Pacific and Australia are nervously awaiting the results of the Fashion Awards this Friday.

Promising to be a glorious mix of colour, style and talent – there are many extraordinary and original garments, and a number of future fashion stars will be showcased.

The judges are some of New Zealand’s leading fashion designers including Doris De Pont, Denise L’Estrange Corbet, Francis Hooper, Liz Mitchell, and Caroline Church.

Local models, some fresh from the Westfield Style Pasifika model search, are currently being fitted for the garments in the show from categories including Traditionally Inspired to the recently added Asia Pasifika category – which celebrates the Asian influence in the New Zealand community.

The Westfield Style Pasifika Fashion Awards is unique in its high energy entertainment style which also includes performances by some of this country’s top musical talent, integrated into the fashion runway.

The award winning band and crowd favourites Nesian Mystik will take the stage in the Urban section. Kiwi singer Vince Harder, who wowed audiences as Simba in the Australian musical production of “The Lion King”, will also be appearing as one of a group of tenors.

Showcasing up and coming talent, the Fashion Awards will present the exciting urban sounds of South Auckland band 3 Houses Down and NZ Idol teen favourite Nick Olsen. The sultry vocal talents of Taisha along with pop vocalist Leon Wharekura are also part of the lineup.

The ten categories in the Westfield Style Pasifika Fashion Award are Pasifika Body Art; Traditionally Inspired; Resene Asia Pasifika; NZ Aids Foundation Pasifika Hero; Schwarzkopf Osis Three Piece Collection; FLAVA Urban Street Wear; Menswear; Evening Wear; Bridal Wear and Te Puni Kokiri Parent and Child.

The TV One Supreme Award winner receives $3000 and each category winner receives $1000. There is also a Westfield Business Scholarship which mentors designers then showcases them at New Zealand Fashion Week.
