Auckland City, The EDGE and Playmarket are
thrilled to be able to offer new and existing AUCKLAND based
Maori and Pacific Island writers the opportunity in 2007-8
to create and develop new plays as part of the upcoming 2008
Pasifika Playwrights Forum and Matariki Festival Maori
Theatre Hui
Successful applicants will receive:
The
support of a professional dramaturg (or drama tutor) over
their play’s drafts, and workshop and public presentations
as part of either Pasifika
Playwrights, March 2008 (for
Pacific Island writers) or Matariki Festival June-July 2008
(for Maori writers)

Submissions are open to
anyone of Maori or Pacific Island descent with a
good
story to tell and a passion for writing for
performance of all kinds.
Applications and enquiries must
be in writing to:

Your submission must include in
writing:
- A working
title
- A short synopsis of
your story. What is it about?

A scene by scene breakdown: This
may be a list of events or a more detailed account of the
action of planned scenes.

An outline of the characters.
Who are they? What kind of journey will they be going on
in the play?
- A sample scene
or a full draft. Include dialogue and stage directions.
You can include a full scene, or sections from different
scenes. Plays already at first or later draft are
acceptable for application but must not have
been previously produced professionally ( i.e. with paid
cast and crew.)
- A personal
statement about playwriting. Why do you want to write for
the stage? A covering letter explaining who you are,
outlining your writing background (if any) and personal
background, and why you have submitted this proposal.

- Number
the pages of your script.
