Wanakafest Programme On The Streets
PRESS RELEASE 24/08/07
Wanakafest Programme On The Streets
Thousands of Wanakafest programmes have hit the streets of the South Island this week to help festival-goers plan their five days of events and not miss out on the fun, next month.
This year’s brightly coloured, spring flavoured programme contains indepth information to inform and enlighten those wishing to attend the five day festival. In addition to the Wanaka distribution network of businesses, retail outlets, cafes and restaurants, the programme will be sent further afield to South Island accommodation and travel outlets for tourists to pick-up as they pass through. Festival flyers have also been distributed to 10,000 TrustPower customers in Dunedin with their August power bills.
New to this year’s festival programme are several classic events that have a fresh twist. The Paradiso Outdoor Cinema, traditionally shown on the big screen on the lakefront, will this year have a change of face. Carloads of enthusiastic movie buffs are invited to the BaseCamp carpark where a giant screen will be erected for a Drive In Movie. Sound will be transmitted through individual car stereo systems on a frequency of 88.0fm, courtesy of The Studio.fm, so movie go-ers can enjoy the movie under a duvet from the warmth of their private vehicles. “Details of the movie are yet to be released, however to encourage a wide audience attendance, it will be a family friendly movie”, assured festival assistant manager Jess Townshend.
Interest in the festival is spreading with registration and entry forms flowing through the festival office door, however there are still plenty of opportunities for participants to sign up for various events.
“We are thrilled to reveal the full programme of events and let everyone know what is happening in this fun-filled week. Spring is a great time to visit Wanaka and we hope that by distributing information about the festival far and wide, that the diverse festival calendar will attract support from both local residents and visitors from out of town”, Jess said.
Most of the events on the five-day programme are free to enter or to watch from the sidelines. Tickets, which are now on sale, are required for a few of the evening shows such as The Chills concert and ‘That Hypno Show’ and should be bought in advance.
Wanakafest runs from the 12-16 September and stages over 40 events attracting hundreds of participants and drawing crowds of up to 5500 people, with more than 30 community groups involved, including schools, businesses and craftspeople.
