Fancy A Threesome?
Be at Al’s Bar on Saturday, 25 August, 8pm to be part of the live recording of 3 exciting Christchurch bands – Neil Robinson, The O’Lovelys and Undermingus!
LUMA invites you to make some noise as part of the crowd to feature in the first live recording at Al’s Bar. 2006 Rockquest kings Neil Robinson will tear the house down with support from indie pop princesses The O’Lovelys, and underground princes of darkness Undermingus!
Neil Robinson
Since 2006 Christchurch three-piece Neil Robinson have been setting hearts and minds alight with their melt-in-the-mouth pop sensibility, combined with impeccable musicianship, and a killer live show.
Described as the best New Zealand high school rock band in 2006, Neil Robinson beat 623 other bands to be crowned the SmokeFreeRockQuest Grand Champions. In January, they opened the Fresh Produce stage at the Big Day Out Festival and since then have been building a loyal following around the country. When asked ‘which of the band is Neil?’ lead guitarist and vocalist Chris Young says they got their pretty weird band name from a bassist they’ve all played with in other bands. “We thought it was a name that was a bit different and a conversation starter, we are a tribute to a great man!”.
The O’Lovelys
A Christchurch four piece band whose captivating live act demonstrates their explosive sound and emotive melodic lines based around the distinctive voice of Laura Lee.
Evolving over the past three years from playing pop ballads to being influenced by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Veils and The Mint Chicks their sound has come a long way. It all started one windy stormy night in a dark scary classroom, A strange girl Brooke was sitting at an electric Yamaha keyboard leaning over it's black and white notes picking out a haunting melody... Over in the other corner of the room was Laura Lee, scribbling lyrics in a black book about life, death and tragedy. Since then it has taken a much brighter turn. Recently their indie pop style has expanded to include to new members Joe Sampson (Charlie Bones) on guitar and Matt Scobie (Black Market Art) on drums, and are in the process of recording an EP which will be out in September 2007. They play cool music.
Undermingus
Completing the threesome are rock under-lords Undermingus. This rocking three piece play a dynamic mix of insane bass licks, crunchy thick guitar riffs and utterly dominating drum grooves.
With the recent arrival of local guitar hero Nick Vassar with his like-minded aspirations and rock influences, the band has fine tuned their blistering live act that is being unleashed on unsuspecting audiences nationwide. UNDERMINGUS WILL EAT YOU ALIVE!!!
Be part of the raucous live crowd at the recording of this historic event at Al’s Bar (31 Dundas St, behind Pak’N’Save) - Saturday 25 August 2007
Doors at 8pm with first performance starting 9pm.
