Hot Hot Hot New Drama "Skins" Coming to C4 in September!
9 x 60 minute drama series.

" as far as guilty-pleasure-viewing goes, this has got all the right ingredients"
Canvas Magazine (UK)

Many New Zealanders will already have heard of the hit drama "SKINS". It made global headlines a couple of months ago for inspiring a teenage house party in the UK resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars. The party had been promoted as an "Unofficial Skins Party" with the subtitle "Let's trash the average family-sized house disco party". And right now this show is hot hot hot property. C4 couldn't be happier to be bringing it to NZ telly this September.

From the producers of Shameless, SKINS is british youth drama at its best. Following the lives of 9 raucous teenagers from Bristol SKINS has been celebrated for its realistic treatment of todays youth. The characters in SKINS are 'sunny, optimistic kids' who 'drop pills, pass exams, have sex, manage their parents and push boundaries like only teenagers can" says creator Bryan Elsley ((The Young Persons Guide to Becoming a Rock Star, The Crow Road, 40)

The young cast is largely made up of first time actors - excluding lead character Tony who is played by none other than Nicholas Hoult - star of the hit movie "About a Boy" - whilst his dad is played by Harry Enfield (as you've never seen him before..a chubby middle aged dad of a wayward teen!) Other characters include Tony's gilfriend Michelle (April Pearson) - the most beautiful girl in town, an unconfident virgin Sid (Mike Bailey), Cassie (Hannah Murray) a left field girl with issues, Chris (Joe Dempsie) the party animal, an intelligent young black lady - Jal (Larissa Wilson), Maxxie (Mitch Hewer) a very sweet gay character and Anwar (Dev Patel) a Muslim struggling with maintaining both his faith and his party lifestyle. And, whilst the young actors are mostly first timers - all of the adults are played by well known actors and comedians including Morwenna Banks, Neil Morrissey, Arabella Weir and Danny Dyer among others As a result the show is designed to appeal to not only teens but to "youth of all ages" .

With great importance placed on cinematagraphy, SKINS is beautifully shot using independent film as inspiration for its style. One of its greatest bragging points is the average age of the writing team - only 23 years - ensuring the storylines are as authentic as possible - and very now.

SKINS (a reference to rolling papers) will premiere on C4 Monday 10th of September at 9.30pm. SKINS is one of two hot British drama's being added to C4's programming schedule with C4 also obtaining the rights to hugely popular UK soap "Hollyoaks". (Premiere date yet to be confirmed)

Says Andrew Szusterman - Director, C4 "Youth drama is the next logical step for C4. We've always been conscious of representing our audience well in music, reality and comedy - and similarly we've taken time to find the right dramas for the channel. It hasn't been easy because of the nature of C4 but we believe the tone of both "SKINS" and "Hollyoaks" compliment the rest of our schedule and will strike a real chord with our viewers”
