Top entertainers to perform at Wanakafest

An impressive line up of performers has been booked to entertain festival goers at the 2007 Wanakafest next month.

From a comical hypnotic show to a rousing rock band, or a divine dinner and a glimpse of glamour, the night-time ticketed events on the Wanakafest programme are guaranteed to be an entertaining evening for groups of friends and family.

Taking centre stage on the Saturday night of festival is the iconic kiwi band The Chills. Since 1978 this Dunedin based band has been taking the international stage by storm with their punk inspired repertoire. Performing classic hits such as I love my leather jacket, The Chills will be sure to bring the crowd to their feet and raise the roof of the Lake Wanaka Centre.

Gerard Verschuren brings his entertaining hypnotising show to Wanaka. ”That Hypno Show” will amuse the audience as hypnotised volunteers perform clean and classy antics. Volunteers will experience the power of hypnosis, while the audience sit back and enjoy the hilarity of the show. The show will be unique and tailor made for the Wanaka crowd.

The glamour night of the festival is Wanaka’s favourite catwalk event, the Unichem Passion4Fashion Show. Wanaka retailers will dress local models in the latest fashion to strut their stuff on stage. Christchurch’s Funky Hot Mama’s will provide an outrageous musical performance with a twist of haute couture humour.

For a formal evening of wining and dining the Flavours of Wanaka Dinner hosted by Edgewater Resort brings together top local chefs including Andrew Spiegel and vineyards such as Rippon and Domaine Jaquiery to produce a sumptuous five course dinner with petit fours complimented by wine tastings. The degustation dinner will include a charity auction with proceeds supporting Sustainable Wanaka and The Wanakafest Community Trust.

Festival manager Kerry Quin is delighted to be able to bring a variety of entertaining shows to the stage during Wanakafest and ensures there will be something for everyone, “This year we have kept ticket prices as low as possible to encourage everyone to join in the celebrations, and would urge people to get their tickets early to save disappointment, we are expecting sell outs for most of the shows,” she said.

Wanakafest runs from the 12-16 September and features over 40 events for the whole family to enjoy, most are free to watch or participate in.
