Who will be the next Girlfriend Model Search winner?

New Zealand's number one teen magazine kicks off their ninth annual Girlfriend Model Search in August 2007 with a nationwide hunt for New Zealand's next modelling sensation... with a difference.

Says Girlfriend editor Pamela Marker: "We're not just looking for a catwalk model, but also a role model. Someone with a positive attitude, down-to-earth nature, inspirational, confident without being OTT and generally what Girlfriend believes in... fun!"

The 2007 Girlfriend Model Search is one of New Zealand's most prominent modelling competitions. Girlfriend magazine, together with Clyne, Westfield, ZM and Clean and Clear are giving kiwi girls, aged 13-19, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be discovered and become New Zealand's next big thing, sharing in a prize package worth over $20,000!

The appeal of Girlfriend Model Search winners is far reaching. 2006 Girlfriend Model Search winner Gretta Schumacher is about to experience her television debut, with a walk-on role on local drama Shortland Street. Other stand outs from last year's field include Kristen Andrew, Emma Weenink and Flora Waddington, all currently experiencing success on Clyne's books.

Winner of the 2005 Girlfriend Model Search, Tia Woods is also enjoying a successful modelling career, having shown at both 2006 New Zealand Fashion Week and 2007 Australian Fashion Week, with international promise.

"Tia is a great example of a Girlfriend Model Search winner who really stood out for us all, not only with her beautiful look but also with her positive personality and great attitude to life. She's a delight to promote and as a result, she's had some great experience in the local and Australian market. After impressing Ford Models in an agency visit, she's now contracted to them and will be heading over to New York in October this year," says Clyne agency director, Kim Larking.

The winner and finalists in this year's Girlfriend Model Search stand to share in a prize package worth over $20,000. As well as being the next Girlfriend Model Search winner and Girlfriend's January 2008 covergirl, the 2007 winner will also win a modelling contract with Clyne and an amazing family trip for four to Dreamworld and WhiteWater World on the Gold Coast to shoot an eight page fashion shoot, complete with a Bengal Tiger!

The prize pack also includes a one year subscription to Girlfriend magazine, Clean and Clear skincare pack, Playstation 2 console and entire back catalogue of SingStar, MOPS hair straightener, the Fantasy Britney Spears range, Gold Nail Stamping Set, D'Aguiar Pro range of makeup brushes, a full set of the Indy range of Hey Sister underwear and sleepwear and a pair of Le Specs/One Teaspoon sunglasses.

The 2007 Girlfriend Model Search roadshows will take place in Westfield malls in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch during August, with DJs from radio station ZM MC-ing the events and plenty of other on-site entertainment.

After narrowing down the field, Girlfriend will fly five finalists to Auckland for a workshop including a fashion shoot for the November issue of Girlfriend. Readers will vote for their favourite finalist and the Girlfriend judging panel will also make their decision of who will be the 2007 Girlfriend Model Search winner.

Girlfriend is keen to see as many girls as possible enter over the three days of roadshows. For those who may be a bit shy or nervous about the idea of the catwalk, Marker is encouraging: "Girlfriend's Self Respect campaign has been smothering our readers (lovingly of course) with positive affirmations and encouraging messages throughout the magazine all year. I'm sure this campaign has given NZ teens the motivation and can-do attitude to come on down to Westfield and have a fun day with us.

"Here's a little secret. Most of the girls we meet are nervous initially but it's a fun thing to do for yourself and we'll keep you smiling. Bring your Girlfriends and enter together."

Clyne's Kim Larking is also looking forward to meeting and uncovering more talent at the roadshows this year: "The modelling industry these days commands a wide variety of looks, from international catwalk modelling through to acting, presenting and TV commercials and we'll be looking to scout girls for all of our divisions. Clyne have a strong history of involvement in the Girlfriend Model Search and we hope to discover more amazing girls that we can develop according to their individual talents."

The 2007 Girlfriend Model Search is open to all girls aged 13-19 not currently signed to a modeling agency. Entry forms are available in the August issue of Girlfriend, to enter girls need to fill the form and bring it down to their nearest roadshow.

The 2007 Girlfriend Model Search roadshow travels to Westfield centres across New Zealand between 11-1pm on the following dates:
Sat 11 August 2007, Wellington. Westfield Queensgate.
Sat 12 August 2007, Christchurch, Westfield Riccarton.
Sat 18 August 2007, Auckland, Westfield St Lukes.
