Winter Hits A High Note For Maori Television's Maorioke Show

It's that time of the year again as the search for New Zealand's next singing superstar is launched by Maori Television's popular talent show MAORIOKE.

East Coast production company Mauri Ora Productions - which is holding auditions in August and September in the main city centres - is offering an extraordinary opportunity for talented singers to perform before television viewers and become household names, with one taking out the title and $10,000 cash prize.

MAORIOKE is open to singers and instrumentalists of all ethnicities, ages and experience. In addition to the ultimate prize, semi-finalists and finalists will have the opportunity to work with a professional vocal coach and perform with a professional band.

Producer Maraki Parata says there are even more incentives to audition this year with new prize categories for best pop/rock, rhythm and blues/hip hop, country and western/old school, kiwiana and reo Maori waiata.

"It means that everyone has a chance, no matter what genre of material they choose - we want to make this as accessible as possible, no matter what your style," Mr Maraki says.
