WELLINGTON - JUNE 18, 2007— The MovieFest Charitable Trust announced today that they have now appointed a judging panel for the 2007 MovieFest competition that is targeted towards schools and hobbyist movie-makers.
“This is the fourth time the MovieFest nation-wide short movie competition that is designed to showcase the creativity of New Zealand movie makers has been held. There will be four entry categories of primary schools, secondary schools, amateurs or home hobbyists and for the first time this year, an open category.“ says Graeme Moffatt, a trustee of the Moviefest Charitable Trust.
“Entrants will need to produce a short three to five minute movie on a specific subject and entrants will have just over six weeks to produce their movie. “
Mr Moffatt says the topic for this years competition will be announced on Monday 2 July and entrants will have until 24 August to complete their movie. A preliminary judging round will select the best three movies in each of the categories and these twelve movies will then be appraised by a panel of judges who are all seasoned professionals in the film and video industries. There will also be a ‘Peoples Choice Award’ and the winning team will tour of a number of the film making facilities responsible for making the Lord of the Rings and King Kong films as their prize.
They are; Rosemary MacLeod, a well known script writer and columnist, Hugh Macdonald, a director who learned his craft at the New Zealand National Film Unit, Bryan Easte, a senior producer/director who was Head of Children’s Programming for TVNZ and Miranda Harcourt, a well known New Zealand actress.
“In a departure from previous MovieFest competitions, the MovieFest Trustees have decided to hold screening festivals this year in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington, with an Awards Ceremony being held at the conclusion of the screenings on Sunday 28 October in Wellington.” says Mr Moffatt.
