Alt TV presents
The Have with special guests The Dukes
On tour

Two of the hottest young bands are hitting the roads this winter for their first nationwide rock n roll tour.

We don’t need to tell you how rad these bands are live…..others have said it for us….and then you know we aren’t just hyping the shit out of you.

‘The Have’s first full length album re-introduces the guys all grown up and one of NZ’s most promising rock acts….do try to catch them live….as they put on an awesome show’ Groove Guide

“It’s been a long time since I had seen a great rock and roll show……(and) I would be just as quick to proclaim them rock and roll as hell….. It’s a Texas rock and roll tradition to spit beer on bands we dig to show appreciation; this was the only show during SXSW where I had to wipe my camera off”
US writer Audrey Edwards for Rip It Up on SXSW 2005

‘Christchurch band Dukes beat four other up-and-coming New Zealand groups to win MTV’s Kickstart competition…the infectious personality of the southern boys makes them a brilliant live act." NZ Herald.

If that doesn’t convince you to go see them live - the tickets are a bargain at only $10.00. Tickets available from Ticketek and venues from the 4th June.

And just in case you don’t know who these bands are (shame on you!) here is some brief info…
The Have

The Have began their career at High School and have never slowed down. For a young band they have achieved a lot in the short time they have been together. The boys have had 2 songs licensed for worldwide releases of EA Games (Rugby 2007 and Burnout 2007), plus have had songs licensed for movies (The Devil Dared Me To), TV advts (X Box, Canterbury for Rugby World Cup, Super 12's in Australia). Plus they have been accepted into SXSW 3 times! From SXSW they gained critical acclaim (Music Week Top 10 SXSW picks) and a US producer - Barrett Jones (Nirvana, Foo Fighters, The Melvins, Evermore) who produced their critically acclaimed debut album 'Back to the Burning Wreck'.

Sunday Star Times – 4 stars….quality writing and playing…Dazed, confused, and lots of fun

Real Groove – 4 stars….There’s no denying the talent and musicianship on this disc

Cheese on Toast… ‘ A stunningly good blues-driven rock and roll record that defies any international time-zone. This is the real McCoy. F**ken A’

The Dukes

Two things happen at every Dukes show.

Firstly, the audience starts smiling. Even the really cool people standing at the back of the room, dressed in black, can't seem to help themselves. Then most of the room (apart from some of the really cool people dressed in black) starts dancing.

This seems to happen because Dukes music is infectious. It's also unpretentious and steeped in tradition. Yet its music that's neither dated nor irrelevant. Dukes care about the craft of songwriting and the art of performing and it shows. Old fashioned values to be sure, but that's what makes this band and their music so captivating. Suffice it to say, if you haven't seen them play live yet, you simply cannot form a considered opinion of this band, a must see live.

"Singer Matt Barus is a born front man and an ingenious songwriter, and his talents are at last fully realised on the band’s debut album. The songs on Lil’ Sunshine draw most inspiration from early to mid-70s - groups like the Rolling Stones, Free and Cheap Trick...(Dukes are) a much underrated band." The Press, Christchurch.

Switch to 2007, and they're working on their second record, and there's no sense of difficulty about any of that stuff. They enter the NZ MTV Kickstart competition and win.

Always Forever is the first single from the second album. It's out in May 07, digitally and physically. You just might have to go to a show to pick up a copy. The album is nearing completion and you'll know more about that when it's ready.

Meanwhile Dukes music will feature in the new Calista Flockhart television series 'Brothers and Sisters' in the US, via Dukes publisher Native Tongue (Don McGlashan, The Veils, The Datsuns, The Black Seeds and more).
