Mother's Day Present Nets $7.5 Million Win
Mother's Day Present Nets Christchurch Family $7.5 Million Lotto Powerball Win
A Christchurch family are walking around in a haze of disbelief after a Mother's Day gift of a Lotto Powerball ticket resulted in them becoming multi-millionaires overnight, says NZ Lotteries Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.
"It really is hard to believe that this has happened to us, we never thought something like this would happen to us, it is quite life-changing," says one of the winners, who wishes to remain anonymous.
The family, who purchased their winning ticket at Unichem Bishopdale Pharmacy in Christchurch, have won a total of $7,575,893, with $7,288,657 from winning Powerball First Division and a further $287,236 from also winning Lotto First Division.
"We found out we had won when we checked the numbers on the internet, it is the most amazing feeling watching the numbers on your ticket line up with those on screen. It really is the most amazing feeling to experience.
"We saw that we had all six numbers and then when we saw that the number eight Powerball matched our number eight Powerball, it really was an indescribable feeling.
"Even more special is the fact that it was a Mother's Day present," the winner said.
The family, who are still getting over that 'stunned mullet' feeling, is still letting the win sink in and plan to let it sink in even further before they decide what they will to do with the money.
"It was really great to hear that we had shared the prize with someone else, nice to see it also go to Levin," the family said.
Saturday's second Lotto Powerball prize, also worth $7.5 million, and sold by Levin Mall Lotto, is still to be claimed.
Saturday's winners have entered the Lotto Powerball 'highest amount won' record books in twelfth (equal) place.
