As part of the New Zealand Music month celebrations Satellite Media’s documentary Heavenly Pop Hits: The Flying Nun
Story will be screening on the Sky Documentary channel.
‘Heavenly Pop Hits: The Flying Nun Story commemorated the 21st anniversary of the home-grown indie record label Flying
Nun. Established in the South Island during the early 1980’s, Flying Nun gave fledgling Kiwi bands such as The Chills
and Straightjacket Fits their first taste of recording and releasing music. Renowned for recording music for music’s
sake rather than promoting songs purely for their commercial value, Flying Nun Records gained an international
reputation for releasing great alternative Kiwi music. More recently Flying Nun had bands like the D4 and The Mint
Chicks on its books.’
Don’t miss this insight into a classic piece of New Zealand music history.
Heavenly Pop Hits: The Flying Nun Story, 10pm Saturday May 5th, Sky Documentary.
