Ticket sales strong for Welly Comedy
Festival
With the New Zealand International Comedy Festival set to blow through Wellington from this Monday, festival organisers are reporting strong ticket sales.
The Comedy Festival’s Wellington Co-ordinator, Brigid Connor, said that many of the marquee events were close to selling out, while both shows for Dylan Moran, star of television’s Black Books, have sold more than 3000 seats.
“Ticket sales for many of the shows are exceeding expectations,” said Ms Connor. “The Capital City will be the Comedy City for the next three weeks.
“We released an additional 50 tickets for the opening night event First Laughs on Tuesday, after the first allotment sold out, and only 15 are still available.
“With most shows having runs of at least a few days there’s still many tickets out there at this stage – but there’s certainly a growing demand for tickets this week, so Wellington folk better get in quick.
“We’ve also released another 100 tickets to the Lindauer Comedy Divas, after only 11 were left from the first allotment. All-female comedy at its best – and we all know that girls get away with way more than the guys, so this night will definitely rock,” she said.
Shows which
are close to selling out include:
* First Laughs, May 8:
15 tickets left from 480 available
* Dylan Moran, May 15 and 16: 82 tickets left from 3151 (both nights)
* Ed Byrne, May 11: 559 from 2780 (both nights)
* Dai Henwood, May 8 to 12: 257 left from 650 – tickets selling fast
* Al Pitcher, May 22 to 26: only 9 tickets left to Al’s opening night
* Brendhan Lovegrove, May 9 to 12: 114 tickets left from 520
“Don’t forget, the Crunchie Comedy Booth located in the Left Bank offers two-for-one tickets available for selected shows on the day of performance, if available,” she said.
Also this week, Australian comedian Joanne Brookfield cancelled her New Zealand appearances because of television commitments in Australia. People who have bought tickets to Ms Brookfield’s show can contact Ticketek for a refund.
