 Top International Doco's Free To Air On Maori TV


Critically acclaimed and award-winning works from celebrated filmmakers from throughout the world feature in Maori Television’s International Documentary slot, Pakipumeka o te Ao, every Tuesday at 8.30 PM.

Screening free-to-air in New Zealand for the first time, the hour-long programmes present unique and contemporary themes with a focus on people and popular culture.

The documentaries come from countries all over the world and cover a wide range of fascinating topics including war, civilization, indigenous rights, ancient history, language, nature, isolation and religion.

There’s a wealth of fascinating topics to keep you inspired – from the nomads of the Sahara and global circus performers to the emotional journey of a Maasai warrior.

Upcoming documentaries on Maori Television include:

CHILDREN OF THE CLOUD – Tuesday May 1 at 8.30 PM: The descendants of the legendary Almorabid warriors still lead their herds of camels around the Sahara, practicing their own particular customs, folklore and culture.


DOUBTING THOMAS – Tuesday May 8 at 8.30 PM: This is the story of Thomas Kuya, a Maasai warrior brought up in northern Tanzania. Thomas is about to go through a sacred ceremony marking his transition to tribal elder along with 1500 of his fellow warriors.

 

ISOLADOS – Tuesday May 15 at 8.30 PM: Indigenous people who have had no contact with modern civilization still live in the Amazon Basin. In Brazil, these people are called ‘indios isolados’ and they are now being forced to the brink of extinction as modern civilization expands into their traditional lands.

LULLABY – Tuesday May 22 at 8.30 PM: More than 60 babies were killed during the last Intifada in Israel and in the Palestinian Authority territories. Israeli and Palestinian mothers describe in a heartbreaking way the essence of motherhood that has taken a fatal blow during the upheaval.


SPIRIT OF THE LAND – Tuesday May 29 ay 8.30 PM: Kapu Ka’u is a unique portrait of one of Hawaii’s most remote and rugged districts. Despite its special beauty and significance, it has been impacted by many outside influences.


CIRQUE OF LIFE – Tuesday June 5 at 8.30 PM: The inspiring story of four young adults who get together in Quebec to train and ultimately stage a live circus performance.
