ONE POINT ONE
Robert Ellis and the late Buck Nin
16 APRIL – 18
MAY 2007
E-North’s focus on community outreach and education has given rise to a significant new exhibition. ‘One Point One’ is based around the NCEA 1.1 requirement for students to research art and artworks from Maori and European traditions. The exhibition aims to provide students and the public with a “close encounter” with large, graphic and powerful paintings.
These paintings, by
artists Buck Nin (1942 – 1996) and
Robert Ellis
(b.1929), are
rooted within the New Zealand
landscape. Both share a common concern for the environment and the negative effects of human intrusion. They also examine the close positive connection between people and the land across cultures.
Buck Nin and Robert Ellis are significant New Zealand artists. Both share a common bond with Northland and Northland education. This, together with the dramatic, expressive nature of the works promises a memorable experience for both students and the community.
