More Top Gear, Doctor Who for Prime NZ
Global smash-hit drama Doctor Who will return to Prime Television with its third series this year after the conclusion of a deal with BBC Worldwide Australasia.
Starting with the 1 x 60’ special The Runaway Bride, David Tennant’s Doctor is joined by UK comedian Catherine Tate in a special that pulled 9.3 million viewers in to the BBC’s 2006 Christmas schedule.
The subsequent 13 x 45’ episodes see the Doctor getting to know his new assistant Martha Jones, (Freema Agyeman) meeting William Shakespeare, and facing off once more against the Daleks.
8.2 million people tuned in to BBC One on Saturday night to watch the new series, which has attracted universal acclaim from critics.
Guest stars include Ardal O’Hanlon from My Hero, Jessica Stevenson from Spaced, Mark Gatiss from The League of Gentlemen, and Sir Derek Jacobi.
Meanwhile, Kiwi Top Gear fans will welcome the return of the world’s most popular motoring entertainment show to its traditional New Zealand home on Prime.
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond launch the ninth series of what could be called the ultimate boys’ club – except that 40% of its viewers are female.
Guest stars in the series include Hugh Grant, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jamie Oliver, Billie Piper and Hot Fuzz’s Simon Pegg.
“We are delighted to have these quality and popular BBC series returning to Prime. Top Gear and Doctor Who are cornerstones of the Prime schedule, and I expect our audiences to be very happy to see the new seasons of both shows back on screen soon,” said Karen Bieleski of Prime Television.
