In addition to providing an evening of great classical music, the APO is throwing down a sartorial challenge and encouraging audiences to dress to impress. There will be three prizes up for grabs: Best Dressed Couple, Best Dressed Female and Best Dressed Male. The grand prize for the Best Dressed Couple will be a night for two at the Hilton Auckland, breakfast at White and two premium tickets to the next Vero Aotea Series concert, ‘Rome, the Eternal City’.

‘Making Arrangements’ will feature award-winning Chinese pianist, Jin Ju, and dynamic Manchester-based conductor, Baldur Brönnimann, performing with the APO.

“The Vero Aotea Series concerts combine the world’s best-loved classical music in Auckland’s world-class Aotea Centre,” says APO Chief Executive Barbara Glaser. “We want audiences to view these concerts as an enriching musical experience and exciting, sophisticated occasion. The APO is all for encouraging our audiences to indulge in creating a sense of occasion by dressing to impress and making the Vero Aotea Series concerts a must-do on their calendar.”

The programme for ‘Making Arrangements’ is also a study in style, exploring works that are not by one but two composers, including Ravel’s famous orchestral arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor arranged by Stokowski and a new arrangement of Shostakovich’s Prelude and Fugue in D minor by New Zealand composer Ross Harris.

All Vero Aotea Series concerts are themed and narrated to provide the audience with informed insight into the programme. ‘Making Arrangements’ will be narrated by Baldur Brönnimann providing a rare chance for the audience to hear from the conductor – and see him front on! Composer and APRA Silver Scroll winner Ross Harris will present a pre-concert talk for ticket holders in the Aotea Centre stalls from 7pm.
