News Feed For Maori-Focused Internet Site

Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand - TangataWhenua.com one of the first Internet sites dedicated to providing relevant Maori-focused and indigenous-centred news, information, employment and event details have now launched a RSS News Feed, a first for a site of this kind.

"In order to meet the growing needs of an increasingly technologically astute audience we have needed to innovate and look at the growing treads within the digital cultures we inhabit" stated Potaua Biasiny-Tule Managing Director of the online Maori news, employment & information service, TangataWhenua.com. "In an effort to realise this we have recently relaunched our website and added new services such as Job Space. Our most recent innovation has been to syndicate TangataWhenua.com as an RSS News Feed.

"Our research suggests that TangataWhenua.com is the only site that to-date is offering this type of service" said Mr. Biasiny-Tule, and went on to add "what we offer is a one-stop-shop for all things Maori. Maori-relevant news, information, employment and events which are relevant and useful to us, our whanau, hapu, marae, and iwi, our communities, our colleagues and our friends."

"TangataWhenua.com's RSS (which stands for Really Simple Syndication) News Feed is an add-on to the services we already offer" said Mr. Biasiny-Tule. RSS feeds are an alternative means of accessing the vast amount of information that now exists on the World Wide Web. "Instead of having to browse countless websites for information of interest, our service sends Maori-relevant information directly to our subscribers" says Mr. Biasiny-Tule. "For example once you subscribe, you can then personalise Google, Yahoo, NewsGator, etc. so that you can receive our News Feed instantly and as we update the info you get the most breaking news feed available".

In addition TangataWhenua.com receives over 12,000 unique each month and has reached over 1 million unique impressions, with an average of 180,000 unique impressions each month. "We've seen a 500% increase in unique hits within the last year (starting from 2,000 in April 2006 and reaching over 12,000 in February 2007) and hope to continue to expand our services with podcasts and video casts within the next few months" stated Mr. Biasiny-Tule.

TangataWhenua.com's newsletter has been described by Moea Armstrong of IGRIN as "a huge and wonderful compendium of the renaissance, a comprehensive and entertaining eNewsletter of everything of interest to New Zealanders surfing the new Māori wave... complete with extensive links to further reading and with a lively commentary even better than the progressive style of many long-established eNewsletters. A must read for anyone covering Māori news, and countless random hooks for the casual reader, a stellar compass for those navigating the myriad highways of Māoridom."
