FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
26 March 2007
It was a successful entrance for Ben McAlpine’s “HOME” Art Exhibition to the city of Wellington, with over 60 invited
guests visiting the Ashton Grove showroom on Wakefield Street during the evening of 22nd March. A few works sold within
the first hours after the display was complete, there are over one dozen works from this new featured artist that will
exhibit at Ashton Grove Wellington through 29 April. Ben has gained popularity throughout the Marlborough Sounds and
South Island, but Wellington is the city where it all started…A quote from Ben’s blog, ‘I was wandering around the National Museum in Wellington when I was about 12, looking at hundreds of paintings. After
an hour or so my brain was totally full and turning foggy. Then, out of the blue, a huge painting jumped out of the
masses to totally clear and reinvigorate my mind. It was a Don Binney painting, of a fantail I think. [It was]
deceptively simple, but impossible not to be affected by it. I guess that experience stuck with me through to the age of
25, when I began seriously painting.’
Ashton Grove will replace sold works with new ones from Ben as the weeks progress. They would like to invite art
enthusiasts and collectors to stop by and view the exhibit. Showroom hours are: Monday – Friday 9:30 to 5:30 + Saturday
and Sunday 10:00 to 5:00 (Closed on public holidays)
