WHO: Lake, aka ‘urbantramper’ is a 24
yr old devout treeninja, always doing his best to follow the
principle of ‘one is life’ and make the world a better
place for all to live in. He has been playing music under
the ‘urbantramper’ moniker for 7 years. He has played
with musicians such as: Calexico, John White (mestar),
disasteradio, ryan prebble…etc.. He has released 2 albums:
‘to the future on foot…’ (2004) and ‘the treeninja
always gets through…’ (2005) Both albums receive airplay
on B-net, commercial and Government owned radio. A
compilation of urbantramper’s albums was the bonus CD on
the June ‘06’ Low Hum tour. The recent
‘urbantramper’ single ‘shitty flat’ reached number 2
on the Kiwi Fm top 10, and the new single ‘sunsets on the
empty carnival’ has just been released . The current
incarnation of urbantramper is: ‘urbantramper & when we
were free’. A band comprising of: lake (vocals, acoustic
guitar, melodica, triangle, harmonica), eli D (vocals,
guitar, tambourine), joe (bass) and griff
(drums/percussion). They have recently played shows in
Auckland and Tauranga, and play regularly in Wellington. The
music could be described as ‘future folk’. There are
beautiful boy/girl harmonies, well structured pop songs,
psychedelic jams, soulful ballads and driving
beats….
WHAT THEY’VE SAID:
"it's clear that this
album is something pretty special, reminiscent of Gramsci
and Age Pryor but going beyond both of these to plumb new
depths of echoing instrumental layers. Urban Tramper's music
is both mournful and joyous. It is homemade yet polished." -
NZ Musician ( NZ music magazine)
"Like a mellow Beck
crossed with radiohead, yet totally original in the trampers
own distinctive voice, this is a hell of a lot more pleasing
to listen to then any of those cheesy "lazy sunday"
compilations.
beautiful.
Singer/songwriters take
note." Blink (a low hum)
“urbantramper’s live
performance is, aurally speaking, very similar to his
recorded music…the audience certainly liked it and got
into all he had to offer, joining him onstage and dancing
freely to his almost-spiritual melodic
beats…urbantramper’s determination and self-belief,
coupled with his proven musicianship, make him a name to
watch” –the Package (Wgtn/chch street mag)
