New Zealand Premiere from Top Choreographer at Festival of Colour
The latest work from leading New Zealand contemporary choreographer, Raewyn Hill, has its New Zealand premiere at this year’s Southern Lakes Festival of Colour in April.
Powerful, pure and evocative, Mercy: A dance for the forgotten, explores the universal theme of survival in the face of unimaginable hardship. It shows how the human spirit brings us hope in times of need, and hope, like love, transcends all. The sheer poetry of this work touches the soul with its gift of light out of darkness.
Hill said she sees the work as a return to humanity. “In moments of fear or pain we observe ourselves moving to another realm, an indefinable place or feeling, something positive, something close to hope.”
Mercy: A dance for the forgotten, marks the Festival’s first international collaboration with Tasmania’s Ten Days on the Island and is performed by Tasdance, recently named as Australia’s leading dance ensemble. The work is accompanied by the Marian Vespers, a beautiful choral work by 18th century Italian composer, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.
Mercy: A dance for the forgotten, sponsored by Infinity Investment Group, takes place on Tuesday 24 April at 7pm in the Lake Wanaka Centre. Tickets are $28 + booking fee available through TicketDirect outlets nationwide or through the Festival web site at www.festivalofcolour.co.nz
