Air New Zealand and MTV to host the world’s first MTV Mile High Gig en route to the MTV Australia Video Music Awards
Air New Zealand and MTV today announced the world’s first MTV Mile High Gig en route to the Australian Video Music
Awards. The MTV Mile High Gig from Auckland to Sydney departs on Saturday 28 April and will see passengers rocking out
to live performances in a mid-flight party before attending the awards ceremony in Sydney on 29 April.
A limited number of exclusive seats are available for purchase. All passengers will automatically receive a
money-can’t-buy ticket to the Awards as well as a ticket to the VIP after-party where guests can mingle with the stars.
This year the Australia Video Music Awards (AVMAs) will be hosted by Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas and will include
performances from both local and international A-list starts including Jared Leto with his band ‘30 Seconds from Mars’.
The AVMAs will air exclusively on MTV, channel 60 SKY digital, on 4 May from 7.30pm and is presented by Aero and Air New
Zealand.
“We’re really excited to be the co-cost of the MTV Mile High Gig and be a part of what’s shaping up to be an awesome
experience,” says Stephen Jones, General Manager of Pacific and Tasman services for Air New Zealand.
“This event is the first of its kind – passengers will get to enjoy the party flight atmosphere and rock out with top
bands while crossing the Tasman en route to Sydney, Australia and then get to experience the glitz and glamour of the of
the Australia Video Music Awards.”
The limited edition passes to the AVMAs for the MTV Mile High Gig have been secured through MTV New Zealand and its
association with the MTV network worldwide.
Pip Jamieson, MTV Networks New Zealand Marketing Manager says: “I can think of nothing better than rocking out at 37,000
feet with a glass of champagne in my hand on the way to one of the biggest events in the worlds music calendar, it’s the
ultimate high!”
“It’s also the first time that the Australia Video Music Awards will include a New Zealand Viewer’s Choice Award so
passengers will be proudly supporting that category.”
The MTV Mile High gig on flight NZ1703 departs Auckland on 28 April at 12.30pm. The price includes a one-way flight to
Sydney, entry to the Australian Music Video Awards and passes to the VIP after party. The cost is $349 per person.
