Ride Inna Town

The AK & H-Town link-up with Wellington at Tupelo on Friday 30 March for RIDE INNA TOWN - a night of crucial Reggae, Roots, Dub and Dancehall selections, in an inter-city stylee! Featuring very special guest selectors DUBHEAD (Akld) and CPT NEMO (Hamilton), with Wellington heavyweights LEMON (Roots Foundation) and RAS TWIG (Sounds Almighty), plus legendary mic controller TUFFY CULTURE.

Dubhead is one of New Zealand's premier selectors - he became active as a DJ in 1983 and has played Reggae, Funk and Hip-hop at all manner of events around the country since then, including support slots for touring international artists Renegade Soundwave, Mad Professor, African Head Charge, Ben Harper, Rockers Hi-Fi, Dry & Heavy, Burning Spear and Toots & The Maytals. He hosts a weekly specialist radio show - The Rhythm Selection - on Auckland's 95bFM which has broadcast continuously since 1990 which airs Monday nights from 9.00 - 11.00pm. From 2000 to 2003 he was bFM's Programme Director and was responsible for securing air-play for countless local artists, particularly those from New Zealand's Reggae and Hip-hop underground. Since 2000 he has been responsible for the executive production of eight New Zealand music compilations, including Dub Combinations Chapter 3, which won the 2003 bNet New Zealand Music Award for 'Best Compilation'. He is also a producer, writer and DJ and is in charge of the Reggae department at record retailer Beat Merchants (www.beatmerchants.co.nz).

Cpt Nemo has been holding down the Hamilton Reggae scene for some time, and is a music journalist and writer at the Waikato Times - aside from having every album sent to the paper pass across his desk - he reviews the Reggae, Soul, Funk, some of the Hip-Hop as well as Electronica, Jazz and many N.Z. releases and in recent years has secured a succession of interviews with various Reggae and Hip-Hop personalities for the paper. He spreads reggae on the wire on stations like BFM and KFM (Akld), Blowhole FM (Wanganui), Active (Wellington) and Contact FM and Raglan Community Radio in the Waikato, and also DJs around town. He is currently working with Dubhead on a book documenting the history and growth of reggae and its culture in New Zealand. The book is planned for release in early 2008.
