Knight Takes Another Toyota Series Win
Christchurch driver Andy Knight took his third victory of the championship when he won the opening race of Round 6 of the 2006/2007 Toyota Racing Series at Timaru International Motor Raceway today.
Knight made a great start to the 12 - lap race in his Karcher Tatuus, beating polesitter Daniel Gaunt away from the start. Twenty - year - old Knight then led all the way despite a brief interruption to the race on the second lap after an early incident.
However Knight took up the race from where he left off at the restart and led second placed Shane Van Gisbergen across the line by 4.589 seconds.
Earlier in the day Knight had placed the Karcher Tatuus on the front row of the grid with the second fastest time in qualifying, just .162 of a second behind defending champion and current series leader Daniel Gaunt. Gaunt recorded a time of 58.286 seconds whereas Knight's best was 58.448.
Knight was very pleased at the end of a successful day. "The car was really good, hopefully I can carry it on. We struggled with the car yesterday in testing but we made some changes after qualifying this morning. I got a pretty good start and that makes it easy."
Tomorrow Knight will race in another 12 lap event timed to start at 10.45am followed by the weekend's third and final race over 18 laps at 3.15pm tomorrow afternoon.
