Record Bookings For Shell Education Programme

Having fun while you learn is top of the list at Puke Ariki with over 300 secondary students and 1,450 primary students booked in to the 2007 Shell Education Programme just in Term One!

Kate Roberts, Manager Service Delivery at Puke Ariki is delighted with the increased popularity and well-developed content of the specialised lessons being offered by Puke Ariki.

“We are nearly fully booked for the next two school terms. But we have an additional bonus for schools as our next exhibition ‘Let’s Get Inventin!’ based on the television series of the same name, enables us to introduce a superb series of twelve creative-thinking workshops with exhibition and series creator Luke Nola, at a number of Taranaki schools. These workshops will examine alternative energy solutions and encourage individual inventions that can be submitted to Puke Ariki for judging and the winner will appear on the show later this year” says Ms Roberts.

“We are very grateful to Shell NZ for their foresight, enthusiasm and support of the 2007 programme. With this support we are able to offer Taranaki school students some fantastic opportunities to enhance their studies.”

As part of the Our Mountain Project, the Puke Ariki Shell Education Team is also organising specialised outreach film workshops in conjunction with the Puke Ariki wiki www.taranakiwiki.com. The project is an opportunity for schools and students to work with Puke Ariki in developing multimedia presentations on the history of their area.

“We are visiting schools as far afield as Hurleyville in Patea to capture on film the unique stories children want to share about their families and the area they live in,” says Ms Roberts. Other topics being covered by the team this term include;
Living World Science - the Geckos, and Birds of a Feather
Place and Environment - Iconic Taranaki
Continuity and Change – And You Think You’re Hard Done By!

Shell New Zealand is a Foundation Partner of Puke Ariki that has been at the forefront of educational support with the Speed Exhibition and Summer Reading Programme. The recently refreshed Oil and Gas Exhibit, in the Taranaki Life Gallery, continues to offer visitors a chance to understand the breadth of the story of energy in Taranaki. Three teachers deliver the Shell Education Programme during the educational year.
