Karori Wildlife Sanctuary presents: The Travelling Tuataras

A Weekend Extravaganza with The Travelling Tuataras
Saturday 10 & Sunday 11 March

All the way from Rotoehu with their pink trunk and rainbow-coloured suitcase full of storytelling magic, the Travelling Tuataras are legendary funmakers and performers who have enchanted thousands of children (and the young at heart!) with their unique mixture of storytelling, song and general merry-making.

The Tuataras ignite the creative spark wherever they go, taking their inspiration from Maori mythology and the natural world to produce extraordinary sculptures and artworks which are then worked into an array of performances and processions.

For the first time this summer, their travels have taken them to Wellington, where they will be running two fun-packed days of workshops and performance on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 March at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary.

On both Saturday & Sunday, they will be running their popular SkyArt workshops, with a bit of bucket drumming and storytelling to accompany the hard work. They will be helping the kids to make 'Wild Wellington Windsocks', which will eventually be used to decorate Civic Square during the DomPost Create-it Carnival on 17 March, as well as telling the 'Karori Story' on a giant banner.

On Saturday, local children's author Irene Swadling will also be performing her 'New Legends of Aotearoa' - a collection of stories based on New Zealand's native birds. Attendance of all workshops is on a drop-in basis. The fun starts at 11am both days.

There is no extra cost to Sanctuary visitors for these activities. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times (adults, you are welcome to join in!)

On Saturday evening, the Tuataras will be bringing the legends of Maui and Maori mythology alive with a magical mixture of storytelling, song, music and audience participation at a spectacular 75-minute evening show on the Sanctuary's Heritage Lawn.

Tickets for the performance cost between $7.50 and $15, and under-fives get in for free!
To book, call (04) 920 9213 or visit www.sanctuary.org.nz .
