Fall Out Boy On high
The first chart double of 2007
goes to Chicago’s Fall Out Boy whose Infinity On High
racks up a third straight week in the Albums penthouse and
gives them a #1 with their first New Zealand hit single,
This Aint A Scene (It’s An Arms Race).
The album takes
its title from a line in one of Dutch painter Vincent Van
Gogh’s personal letters. The group’s sole sold out New
Zealand gig is now at the larger Telstra-Clear Pacific venue
at Manukau City.
Madonna Confesses All
It’s
usual for what goes on tour to stay on tour, but Madge is
keen to confess, and in doing so gains dual chart entries
this week.
Last time around Mrs Ritchie (aka Madonna)
took Confessions On A Dancefloor to #5 on the Albums Chart
(that was November 2005). Now the tour based around that
set gives Madonna two new entries this week, into the Albums
list at #23 and the DVD survey at #4.
The 48-year-old is
the most successful female act ever in the 32-year history
of the Official New Zealand Album Chart, The Confessions
Tour becoming her 19th hit set and her first live album.
Her 23-year albums chart career began in March 1984 with her
#6 self-titled debut. Then there are the remarkable 52 hit
singles (including 5 #1s), beginning with 1984’s #7
Holiday.

The New
Singles
#14 Fat Joe featuring Lil Wayne - Make It
Rain
Fat Joe last graced the NZ Top 40 when he teamed
with Nelly to Get It Poppin’, which peaked at #24 20
months back. Now teamed with Lil Wayne, South Bronx-raised
Joe Cartagena (aka Fat Joe) is back to Make It Rain. Issued
on his own Terror Squad label, the cut is lifted from his
Me, Myself And I set. It gives him his seventh hit here,
all of which are collaborations. The first was Feelin’ So
Good with J-Lo (#11 in 2000), but the biggest and only Top
10er was What’s Luv? with Ashanti (#5 in 2002). Lil Wayne
racks up his second collaborative effort having been part of
Destiny’s Child’s #4 Soldier along with TI two years
back.
#38 Mika - Grace Kelly
Lebanese-bred,
London-based 23-year-old Mika (not to be confused with New
Zealand’s own Mika from Timaru) has spent the last five
weeks at #1 in the UK with his debut single Grace Kelly.
Sounding a lot like the Scissor Sisters featuring Freddie
Mercury, the track debuts on airplay at #38. The
cross-format hit is lifted from Mika’s debut album, former
UK #1 Life In Cartoon Motion which hit stores this
week.
#40 Justin Timberlake - What Goes
Around...
Twenty-six-year-old Justin Timberlake has just
claimed a #1 hat-trick in his US homeland as the third
single from his solo sophomore set Future Sex/Love Sounds
it’s third chart-topper. What Goes Around… meanwhile
begins its New Zealand chart run in the anchor position,
making #40 purely on radio play. It’s #6 on the
RadioScope100 ahead of a retail companion in a couple of
weeks. It could repeat the American feat here as both the
album’s former singles SexyBack and My Love have graced
the penthouse. It brings Justin’s hit tally to eight, all
but two going Top 10.
