Biofuels in hybrid cars can significantly reduce emissions says The Clean Green Car Company

§        Awareness of hybrid transportation still needs to be heightened according to The Clean Green Car Company.
§        Use of biofuel in a hybrid vehicle can significantly reduce the already lowered amount of noxious gases emitted, and provide double the fuel efficiency.

Auckland, Thursday 22 February, 2007 – Over the last two weeks there has been a significant increase of public awareness regarding energy issues; however, mention of and awareness of hybrid transportation still needs to be heightened, according to The Clean Green Car Company.
“We stated last month that fluctuating oil prices and the Government’s focus on energy policies would increase the need for fuel-efficient, ecologically-viable motoring options,” said Stephen Pollard, owner of The Clean Green Car Company. These views have been supported in the wake of a government pledge last week to set a 3.4% target on biofuel in all petrol and diesel sales by 2012.
“While this biofuel target can reduce New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions by more than one million tonnes, what has been overlooked is  the potential use of biofuel in hybrid vehicles can  significantly reduce the already lower amount of noxious gases emitted, all while providing up to double the fuel efficiency and correspondingly lower CO2 emissions.”
The Clean Green Car Company is the country’s only specialist in hybrid cars. Mr Pollard believes that hybrid vehicles and the new biofuel quota provide a powerful solution to current energy issues.
“It is clear that the government’s new stance on carbon neutrality, sustainability and climate change will shake up existing energy usage practices. Car owners will not make significant leaps in motoring practices, and new technology adoption will take time,” said Mr Pollard. “However, hybrids cars offer a way for car owners to make incremental, yet significant steps towards environmental and economical conservation. As hybrid cars are driven and fuelled like non-hybrids, car owners need not make lifestyle changes in favour of better fuel economy, lower noxious emissions, and less worry over tighter government energy policies.”
The Clean Green Car Company foresees that as consumers feel the pinch of rising fuel costs, the demand for economically-viable transportation will increase. The company saw a 20% growth in sales last year, and expects a further increase of 40-50% this year. Apart from moving into new premises in Auckland towards the end of last year, there are also plans to open a Wellington branch later this year to meet mounting demands.
Mr Pollard says, “With the expected increase in demand for hybrid vehicles, we are taking customised orders and will be increasing our range of vehicles to include other hybrid models. This bigger range will represent more variety, and hopefully more incentive for motorists to make a greener, more economical choice.”

About The Clean Green Car Company
Established in 2004, The Clean Green Car Company is New Zealand’s only specialist in hybrid cars – vehicles which combine petrol and electric power. The company is positioned to play a significant part in the private transport industry by providing New Zealanders with the leading technology in fuel-efficient vehicles: cars that offer the power and quality features of non-hybrid cars but with half the fuel costs and with a significantly lower environmental impact.
Fast facts about hybrid cars:
·         Emit up to 90% less noxious emissions compared to their non-hybrid counterparts.
·         DO NOT need to be plugged-in to recharge the batteries – hybrids run only on petrol.
·         Have around double the fuel efficiency of their non-hybrid counterparts.
·         Do not require special maintenance apart from normal oil and filter changes.
·         The NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries are expected to last upwards of 300,000km, with some hybrid taxis in the USA clocking over 400,000kms.
·         Feel and drive like normal automatic car s except quieter and smoother.
·         An excellent option for motorists choosing to reduce pollution and save petrol without drastic changes in driving habits and practices.
