Weekend Review: The Waitakere Sounds ’07 concert at Harbourview, Te Atatu Peninsula, delivered all the action you expect with icons of NZ Rock Hello Sailor – broken guitars and rock ‘n’ roll stars. 2500 people enthusiastically sang along at the spectacular venue which has a backdrop of Auckland’s Harbour Bridge, the Sky Tower and Rangitoto and the weather was simply fantastic. Supported by Payola and local blues man Neil Watson the west really is embracing the free concert series. Rock on Waitakere City!

Weekend Review: HipHop in the Park on Saturday was accompanied by a scorching hot day that ensured the shade of the trees was well populated at Marlbrough Park in Glenfield. Local hiphop group Shore Syndicate were naturally crowd favourites when they opened the afternoon with their well rehearsed act, followed by Tyree and his Smashproof colleagues who have recently returned from touring Australia and promoting their new CD, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen’. Fresh off an international flight, Tui Award winners, Frontline wrapped up a very hot afternoon. The most popular performance of the day may have been a crumping competition hosted by Flava with several children breaking moves on stage that most of us would be too shy or stiff to attempt! Ouch…
