Old Favourites Return For 8th Birthday
Old Favourites Return For 8th Birthday
The undisputed neurofunk drum & bass legends and old school Welly favorites are back especially for the Bass Frontiers 8th Birthday celebrations. They were here for our 1st birthday and have been a regular fixture at BF events for the 7 years since. Yes folks it’s the mighty Ed Rush and Optical returning once again to infect the dancefloor with their unique brand of drum & bass sickness.
The Virus story began in 1998 when Ed Rush and Optical teamed up to create the classic ‘Wormhole’ LP. It cemented their status as the forerunners of the new sound of drum and bass, transcending the genre and gaining widespread success. Another LP followed in 2001 called ‘The Creeps’. This again created a huge buzz and met with critical and commercial success. Hot on the heels of that release they proved emphatically that they had many more tricks up their sleeves, with the absolutely massive dancefloor smash ‘Kerbkrawler’. 2003 saw the release of ‘The Amazing Doctor Shade’ LP which was yet another hit with fans of the Virus sound. 2004/05 the boys took a bit of a back seat with their only new production work coming in the form of the dancefloor hit ‘Reece’. Virus went on to unleash some remixes of classic tracks from the past with stunning reworkings from Pendulum, Gridlok and Baron. The collection of lost dubs that was the ‘Virus Vaults’ LP was also uncovered to the great delight of many hardcore Virus heads. The label launched into 2006 with new artists like Noisia and NZ’s own The Upbeats joining the crew cementing the label as one of the most crucial in the game. Determined to explore new territory, the guys moved to the next level with the release of the ‘Chameleon’ project and live shows. Ed Rush and Optical teamed up with brother Matrix whilst Rymetyme, Darrison and Louis Smith appeared on vocal duties. The release was followed by a series of Virus live performances throughout the UK.
