Snowmobiling Freestyler to Attempt World Record In Palmerston North
Visiting American snowmobiling freestyler Justin Hoyer will attempt to break the world record for the longest backflip on a snowmobile in Palmerston North this Saturday, despite having been injured making the attempt earlier this week.
Crusty Demons promoter Mike Porra said Hoyer had been given the all clear to ride in Saturday’s Crusty Demons show at the Arena Manawatu in Palmerston North, after crashing badly during a warm up jump at the Dunedin show last Saturday night.
“Justins’ sled had a mechanical failure immediately before take off on his 3rd warm up jump which meant he came up horribly short and crashed at the top of the landing.
“He was tossed off the sled and bounced down the metal ramp like a rag doll landing 15 feet past the ramp. He was unconscious upon landing and also aggravated a knee injury suffered last month at the Winter X Games in Colorado.
“The 350kg sled almost landed on top of him - it was a really scary crash.”
Hoyer was taken away by ambulance officers on a stretcher and admitted to hospital, but released later that evening
“He was ruled out of the Christchurch show, but has worked hard with doctors and physios’ since Sunday morning and has been given the all clear to ride on Saturday night.”
Porra said the fact that Hoyer is okay and will now attempt the world record in Palmerston North will come as great news for local Crusty Demons fans.
“The world record attempt will see Hoyer aim to complete the longest backflip on a snowmobile spanning a ramp to ramp distance of 65 feet.
“This is certainly a coup for Palmerston North fans. The record was to be attempted last Saturday night but obviously did not happen. Given the drama of last week this is going to be a very exciting part of the show this weekend and we are all pumped about coming to Palmerston North.”
Great tickets to the show are still available through Ticket Direct and for more information go to http://www.crusty.com
