Clancy Strikes Chord with NZ Musicians
Newcomer solo artist, Miriam Clancy, is wowing seasoned muso’s as word spreads on Auckland’s talented singer-songwriter. Sunday Star Times review of “beautifully beguiling” rings true as Anika Moa and The Warratahs are amongst the first to be won over. After seeing Miriam perform both artists were impressed enough to invite Miriam to play as support act at their own shows. Word is traveling as far a field as the U.S. as ex-pats hear about Miriam Clancy.
First up is the North Island tour dates supporting one of New Zealand’s favourite country acts: The Warratahs. Over the last twenty years The Warratahs have captured the hearts of the New Zealand public with tracks like "Maureen" and "Hands of My Heart" and also well know for the legendary Interislander song. Miriam was on tour performing at Cuckoo in Masterton shortly after Miriam's album release. Miriam left Barry Saunders (the writer and key figure of the Warratahs) a Lucky One CD as a gift, as he was unwell and couldn't make it along. She hadn't met him but heard he lived just down the road. He loved Lucky One, played it on the Radio Active Americana show and came to her Lucky One tour show in Wellington. Consequently his manager Roger King has asked Miriam to join the Warratahs on tour, which she was delighted to accept and be opening for them.
Later in February Miriam joins songstress, Anika Moa for Zoo Music. Anika had come to one of Miriam’s shows in October of last year. She loved Miriam and has since been along to hear her more and her management has asked Miriam to join Anika on stage numerous times.
Word on this hot performer keeps spreading resulting in a performance at the upcoming AK07 Festival and the Mt Eden Food & Wine Festival.
Future plans include a trip back to the U.S. as it seems news is has been travelling as far a field as Los Angeles and London. Kiwi Singer-songwriter Helen Henderson, who has been making a name for herself for some time in the alt-country country / rock scene in the USA contacted Miriam recently, keen to meet up when she gets over there as she'd heard good things about her from various LA based musicians. And recently a music journalist for Q and Mojo magazine enquired into to a UK album release after stumbling upon Miriam's music online. Also in the pipeline is a NZ On Air funded single release to radio and TV of the track, ‘Don’t Let It Get You Down’. The song has been re-recorded specifically for radio by the fabulous Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Evermore, Carly Binding).
