Norah’s Three-peat
It was always going to be hard following up Come Away With Me, the debut release for New York-born, Texan-raised Geethali Norah Jones Shankar. It spent 12 weeks at #1 here, 94 weeks on the chart in total and was the highest selling album of 2002 and #2 seller of 2003. It cleaned up at the Grammys for her as well. All pretty good for a set that started its run modestly at #44 in February 2002.
Guesting on the Peter Malick Group’s New York City gave Norah Jones a second chart entry in 2003, peaking at #18, before her real sophomore set Feels Like Home hit #1 out of the box in February 2004. It remained in the penthouse for six weeks and finished as 2004’s #3 best-selling album here.
Three years on and Norah ‘three-peats’ her chart-topping success and makes it two #1 debuts in a row. Not Too Late is also #1 out of the box in the UK this week.

Roger Returns
Sixty-two-year-old Pink Floyd bassist and vocalist Roger Waters returns his last New Zealand charting album In The Flesh: Live to the Albums Chart on the back of his two-concert tour last week.
The set originally charted for a solitary week at #47 six years back in February 2001.
Now, of course, everyone knows there was plenty of success with the Floyd, but he’s also enjoyed his share of solo success here.

Last week American newcomers Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’s debut release Don’t You Fake It hit the Albums list at #37, moving this week to #23. Now their lead single crashes the Singles Chart at #5 this week. Face Down is helped by strong airplay (currently #25 on the RadioScope100).

#23 James Morrison - Wonderful World
Last time out Brit newcomer James Morrison scored a double Airplay and Singles chart topper in the form of You Give Me Something. This week it’s the second track from his #4 debut album Undiscovered (#28 this week) which makes its mark, new in at #23.

#35 My Chemical Romance - Famous Last Words
Famous Last Words becomes Americans My Chemical Romance’s third New Zealand hit single and the second culled from the double-platinum #1 The Black Parade. It follows the #2 Welcome To The Black Parade (#16 this week).

Blur / Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn’s latest outfit The Good, The Bad & The Queen debut straight in at #35 following on from their runners-up debut in their English homeland. Just together since last year the group’s other three members are former Clash bassist Paul Simonon, former Verve guitarist Simon Tong and drummer Tony Allen. Gnarls Barkley member Dangermouse handles production.
