Red Bull Athletes set to defy gravity at X-Air

Some of world’s best extreme sportsmen will be touching down in Wellington over the next week to take part in the freesports action event of the year Vodafone X-Air, and many of them are part of the elite stable of action sport athletes supported by Red Bull.

With eleven athletes from around the world it will be hard to miss the Red Bull athletes in action.

Sandro Dais the high flyin' Brazilian will be literally flying on the Red Bull vert ramp. Dedication, lots of practice and professionalism have been constant ingredients throughout Dias’ career and have made him a multiple skateboarding champion. In August 2006, Dias won one of skateboarding’s most coveted awards the X-Games gold medal. This man is sure to shine with the crowds especially when he pulls the esteemed 900 out of his bag of tricks.

Also competing in the skate vert competition will be German born Juergen Horwaarth, who is a consistent top ten finisher on the pro circuit and Jocke Olsson back for his fourth X-Air competition.

Set to entertain the crowds for the second year in a row is UK skater Ross McGouran, who will be looking for some sick runs in the street competition alongside his compatriot Chris Vile.

Three times world champion on the mini half pipe Hungary BMX street rider Benjamin Shenkar will be one to watch on the street course. He will be up against Corey Martinez, the US rider who is known worldwide for making inconceivable street maneuvers look ridiculously. Also set to show some solid technique with speed and originality in the street competition will be Spain’s Sergio Layos and Austria’s Senad Grosic.

The one to watch in the BMX dirt competition will be US based Corey Bohan who is at the cutting edge of BMX dirt riding. A consistent podium finisher Bohan is the current XGames Gold medal holder.
Back to the Red Bull vert ramp and the UK BMX vert rider Bas Keep will be looking to get plenty of air and pull off a podium finish.
Check out these guys live in action at the Vodafone X-Air 9th – 10th February, Wellington Waterfront.
